We have been requested by housing officers to supply only your medical history. If they require any further details about your illnesses, they will let us know exactly what they need with a written request. Housing officers can only make decisions about what kind of housing is suitable, based on what is available.
To make it easier for you to get the right help when you need it urgently we are offering a Duty Doctor Service in this practice. Duty Doctor is in place from 8.00 am to 6.30 pm, Monday to Friday. When you phone with an urgent problem, the Duty Doctor will ring you back within 2 hours and will decide the best way to help you.
The doctor may:
- Give you advice straight away over the phone
- Arrange for you to come into the practice to see a doctor, nurse or other member of the staff
- Arrange for a home visit if you are not well enough to come to the surgery, and the doctor thinks you need to be seen
- Direct you towards other services which can help
If you need urgent medical advice for you or someone you care for, please call the practice on our usual number and ask the reception team about speaking to the Duty Doctor.
They will ask you a few questions, and if they decide the duty doctor is the right person to help, they will arrange for them to call you back within 2 hours.
This service offers you quick access to your GP practice, where they know you and have your full medical record. We recommend this service instead of going to A&E.
We like to encourage patients to stay with one particular doctor for reasons of continuity, and to improve this, all patients have been given a usual doctor. This will improve the continuity we can offer and result in improvements in care. Please check the Practice’s Continuity of Care Policy for more information on this.
Interpreters provide a service for patients, carers and clinicians to help them understand each other when they do not speak the same language. Not being able to communicate well with health professionals can impact health outcomes and increase the frequency of missed appointments, the effectiveness of consultations and patient experience.
The Lawson Practice has access to interpreting services for many languages. If English is not your first language please let reception know, and we will ensure that an interpreter is booked for your appointment.
