Carers Support Group at The Lawson Practice

Hello and welcome! My name is Melanie Cartwell, and I am proud to be a part of City & Hackney Carers Centre, an organisation dedicated to providing essential support to unpaid carers. Our mission is to ensure that no one undertaking a caring role feels left to manage alone.

An unpaid carer is anyone including children and adults who looks after a family member, partner or friend who needs help because of their illness, frailty, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction and cannot cope without support. The care they give is unpaid.

Many people don’t see themselves as carers – but recognising your role means you can get the support you need.

If you’re a carer, please tell our reception team or fill out our Carer Registration Form. Once we know you’re a carer, we can:

  • Add this to your medical record
  • Offer you support tailored to your needs
  • Help you plan in case of emergencies

Caring can affect your health and wellbeing. We offer a free annual health check for carers. This includes:

  • Checking your physical and emotional health
  • Talking about how caring affects your day-to-day life
  • Offering help, advice, and referrals if needed

Ask reception to book your carer check.

We work closely with the City & Hackney Carers Centre, who provide:

  • Free advice and emotional support
  • Help with benefits and housing
  • Events and wellbeing workshops
  • Support for young carers

If you’re under 18 and help look after someone at home, you’re a young carer. We can offer you support and refer you to services that understand what you’re going through.

Talk to a member of staff, or a trusted adult, if you think this might apply to you.

At the Lawson Practice, we understand the unique challenges faced by those who dedicate their time and energy to caring for others. To address this, I am thrilled to be facilitating our Carers Support Group, a special initiative designed to provide a supportive community for carers.

We are committed to supporting you in various ways. Whether you need someone to talk to, advice on managing your responsibilities, or guidance on accessing further resources, we are here to help.

For more details on the types of support we provide, please visit contact Melanie.Cartwell@hackneycarers.org.uk

We warmly invite you to be a part of our Carers Support Group. Whether you are new to caring or have been in this role for some time, you are not alone. Together, we can create a network of support and understanding that makes a real difference in your life.

Every Tuesday at the Lawson Practice at 10:30. Go to reception and say that you are here for the Carer’s Group in the Large Meeting Room.

For more information and to join the group, please contact Melanie.Cartwell@hackneycarers.org.uk.

Looking forward to welcoming you,

Melanie Cartwell
