Toenail Clipping Service: Essential Foot Care for Vulnerable Patients

Welcome to our toenail clipping service, a non-clinical foot care program designed to support the well-being of vulnerable patients in City and Hackney. This 18-month project, running until March 2025, aims to provide accessible and safe foot care while reducing unnecessary visits to general practice.

To participate, patients must meet one of the following criteria:

General Eligibility:

  • Registered with a City and Hackney GP.
  • Living alone with no immediate support.
  • Receiving an active care package due to physical limitations in performing daily activities, including social deprivation.

For Patients with Learning Disabilities:

  • On the NHS or Local Authority Learning Disability Register.
  • Living alone with no immediate support.
  • Housebound and in need of home visits.

For Patients with Additional Complex Needs:

  • Registered with a City and Hackney GP.
  • Meeting at least one of the following:
    Bedbound.
    Diagnosed with agoraphobia (by an NHS psychiatrist/clinical psychologist).
    On oxygen therapy.
    Actively receiving end-of-life care.
  • Clinics are held at Hoxton Health and St. Leonard’s Hospital.
  • Eligible GP practices are allocated five appointments every three months.
  • Each appointment is designed to cater to non-clinical foot care needs safely and efficiently.
